Blame game

A week has passed since 26/11. We have been exposed to the lackadaisical measures that were taken by the government in dealing with intelligence reports warning such mayhems There have been stories of the media taking advantage of the situation for their own ulterior motives. There were some stories that doubted the competence of the Indian defense forces. All is well and good until we are not to blamed for what happened in Mumbai.

How many of us pay taxes honestly? How many of us have used some arm twisting to get things done in India. How many of us take responsibility for trouble (be it at home, or in our colonies, or on our roads)? We know very well about the ills that exist in our society today. How can we expect some men who are form this society to lead us well? It is from the same society that you and me are a part of that politicians and journalists come. Would it not be right to blame ourselves for everything we have seen over the past week instead of finding scapegoats?

Completely agree...but for what is the common public punished with such terror strikes when the govt, the defense forces and the intelligence agencies are responsible for the well-being and security of all citizens of the country. I agree that we are not perfect citizens and neither are we a perfect nation but we as citizens need the basic sense of security in our own homes. Cant we even ask that?
When the intelligence and the higher authorities knew about a possible attack, why weren't any precautionary measures adopted? Why don't we have proper coast guards? We, as citizens don't choose them. We are at fault for a lot of things that happen in our country. Even when it comes to the poverty, unemployent, bribery, population explotion, other immoral activities, poor quality construction of infrastruture/buildings.. we all ... citizens are responsible equally.
But why here, when we were attacked by a bunch of jihad-blinded lunatics? We are not responsible for our security from external elements. We probably choose the wrong prople to lead our nation ... but where is the choice when all the candidates who compete have their party as the priority over the nation! Are we to blame ourselves?
I do not question the competence of the defense forces. They give it their best when orders are sent. But what about the weapons they are equipped with? Why are they still using outdated AK-47s when the terrorists have far more powerful ammunitons? Why dont we have proper bullet proof vests( we have approx. 6kg heavy ones in comparison with the ones they use in other foreign countries that are light and fully protecting....) to protect the men who fight for our security and we end up losing them in such a battle?
We as citizens don't have a say in what ammunition they should be equipped with.. do we?So who should we blame? The defense ministry...? Had the orders been passed on time or rather well before time (since they had a vague idea of some impending attack)this ruthless massacre could have been averted... why did they wait? That's all we want to know. Its a very horrifying ordeal to see gunmen running free in the streets shooting randomly at people.. that's not what we deserve as citizens of the world's largest democratic nation..
